Kalanjali 2012 - 2 day Cultural Fiesta held at Mattancherry

Aiming at preserving the tradition and culture of the Tamil Brahmin community in Kerala, Kalanjali 2012, a two-day cultural fest organised by the Kerala Brahmana Sabha in state level began on Saturday, 4th August 2012. The event is part of a biennial function organised across the state. The event is meant to revive the long lost traditional art forms and customs of the community like Kolattam, Valayavantha Pattu, Soundaryalahari, Bhajanai, Narayaneeyam, Kolam drawing, wearing 18 muzham pudavai, preparing authentic Brahmin snacks and wearing panchakacham.

Veteran musician V. Dakshinamurthy and Kalyani Dakshinamurthy inaugurated the competitions at BWA Hall, Mattancherry. Dr. V. Ramalingam, State President presided over the meeting and Dominic Presentation MLA delivered the Keynote address. “Happiness, prosperity and a long healthy life are reserved for those who remember their gurus with respect and adoration,” said Dakshinamurthy in his inaugural address. “We do everything in our life owing to the blessings of the Almighty God. In fact, it is He who makes us do all things in our life, including dancing, singing, eating and sleeping. The blessings of God and the guru enable human beings to attain perfection.” - he added. Dakshinamurthy and Kalyani were honoured in the meeting. P. S. Raman (State Vice President), G. Moni (Kalanjali 2012 Co-ordinator), V. Krishnaswamy (General Convener, Kalanjali & District President, Ernakulam) and P. Ananthasubramaniam (State General Secretary) were present on the occasion.

Actor Dileep inaugurated the valedictory function of Kalanjali 2012. He also distributed prizes to winners in the competitions held over two days at different venues at Mattanchery. V. Ramalingam, State President of Kerala Brahmana Sabha, presented a silver lamp to Dileep, felicitating on his winning the State award for best actor for 2011. V. Krishnaswamy, District President, draped him with a Ponnada. Adv. Sujini Venkitachalam (State Secretary, KBS, Vanitha Vibhagam), S. H. Karthik (Secretary, KBS Yuvajana Vibhagam), V. Nandakumar (Regional Manager, Federal Bank), P. Ananthasubramaniam (State General Secretary) and Ganesh Venkitachalam (District Secretary, KBS, Ernakulam) spoke.
