Eight Sapindi Brahmins were honoured by the Vadarkutti Brahmana Samooham, Perumbavoor on 30th of December 2012, on the occasion of the Annual General Body of the Samooham. It is believed that the Sapindis represent departed spirits on the occasion of Sapindi karanam. Usually the seven Brahmins called for the sapindi rites are - one to represent Vishnu, two the Vishvadevas, three the deceased's immediate three ancestors, and one to represent the Preta. The two called for ordinary shraddha rites are, one to represent the Vishvadevas and one to the spirit of the deceased. Thus the Sapindi Brahmins are great human beings those who bestow the blessings on us on behalf of our ancestors. Understanding the fact that it is not always easy to get fit and proper Brahmins for these rites, the Samooham officials decided to rewarded them. A Brahmin to be fit for this duty should be over sixteen years of age, and both his parents must be still living and he should also be a man of light and learning, according to Manu.

The meeting was presided by H. Ramanathan, President of Vadarkutti Brahmana Samooham. G. Mahadeva Iyer, Director of Savarni Jyothisha Vidyalam delivered key note address. N.
