Kancheepuram & Thiruppathy Darsana Yathra by Thripunithura Upasabha on 30th October

The Upasabha of Thripunithura is organizing a pilgrim trip covering famous temples at Thiruppathi, Kalahasthi, Thiruthani and Kancheepuram. The group will leave Thripunithura on Saturday, the 30th of October 2010 at 8.00 p. m. from West Nada of Chakkamkulangara Siva Temple. 40th State Meeting on 3rd October 2010 at Palakkad

The 40th State Annual General Body of Kerala Brahmana Sabha will be held on Sunday, the 3rd October 2010 at Sree Sarada Sankara Kalyana Mandapam, Nurani at Palakkad. V. Ramalingam, State President will hoist the official flag at 9.30 a. m. marking the beginning of the 40th State Meeting. More than 1000 delegates from different districts of Kerala will attend the meeting.

The State Meeting of Vanitha Vibhagam is scheduled at 1.00 p. m. in the same venue. Youth Wing Convention will be held at 2.00 p.m. in which a State Committee will be constituted for the first time in the history of Kerala Brahmana Sabha.

Multifarious personalities from different walks of life will grace the public meeting at 3.00 p. m. The community members who have achieved remarkable positions in their academics as well as professions will be honoured in the meeting.

To sustain and propagate the Brahmanic Culture among the youngsters in the age group of 8 to 15, different competitions are organized on Saturday, the 2nd of October 2010. Kolamidal, Slokam Chanting, Manthra Chanting, Bhajana and Role Play are the competitions to be held. “Prize money of Rs. 1.5 lakh rupees is awaiting the winners” – said V. Ramalingam, State President and P. Ananthasubramaniam, State General Secretary in the press release.

Kolu Bommai Sales at Ernakulam

An exhibition cum sales of Kolu Bommai is organized by Vanitha Vibhagam of Kerala Brahmana Sabha, Ernakulam City Unit at Gramajana Samooham (Ground Floor of Sita Rama Kalyana Mandapam), Ernakulam. The sales counter will be open from 8.00 a.m. to 8.00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, the 2nd and 3rd of October 2010. Over 15000 Bommais in 115 varieties are on display, collected mainly from Vellacheri Village of Madurai, Mantutty Village of Salem and small villages in and around Kancheepuram. Price ranges from Rupees 35 to 3000 and some sets are having 20 to 30 pieces depending on the theme. The Bommais are basically thematic and made of clay or paper pulp. Dasavatharam, Ashtalakshmi, Ramar-Pattabhishekam, Valli Kalyanam, Sreenivasa Kalyanam, Uri-Krishnan etc. are the usual attractions. Few rare sets of Krishna and Kuchelan are also made available here. “Last year the most wanted piece was Pandurangan, and the idol of ‘Chottanikkara Ammai’ which is to be launched this year will be the attraction of this season” - said Kala Narayanaswami, Secretary of Vanitha Vibhagam.

Perumbavoor Upasabha elects Youth Wing office bearers

Ernakulam District to launch its Youth Wing on 26th September 2010

The launch of Youth Wing of Kerala Brahmana Sabha, Ernakulam District will be held at Samooham Kalyana Mandapam (Mukundan Nagar), Perumbavoor on 26th September 2010 at 10.00 a. m. Honourable Justice V. R. Krishna Iyer, Former Judge of Supreme Court of India will be the Chief Guest and V. Ramalingam, State President of Kerala Brahmana Sabha will inaugurate the District Youth Wing. P. R. Kalyanaraman, Executive Director of Federal Bank Limited and Prof. T. K. Kaveri will deliver their speech in the meeting which is to be presided by V. Krishnaswami, District President. The recipient of Sree Sankara Talent Award for young musicians by Sree Sankara Assessment and Accreditation Council, C. Y. Gangadharan of Perumbavoor will be honoured in the meeting.

The Convention will be attended by the youngsters from all the Upasabhas of Ernakulam District between the age of 18 to 35 and the meeting is hosted by Perumbavoor Upasabha on behalf of Ernakulam District. The State Committee has decided to build up a Youth Wing, realizing the fact that they can play a crucial role in sustaining the Brahmanic culture and values in future. The various Upasabhas in the District are busy with formation of Youth Wing for last few weeks.

S. Mukundan passes away

The President of Koovappady Brahmana Samooham, S. Mukundan (Retired Manager, Union Bank) passed away at a private hospital at Kochi today early morning. He was 67 and was suffering from illness since last week. His funeral will be held at 3.00 p. m. today at Edappalli. Mukundan was leading his retired life at Sunny Palace, West Side of Ganapathy Temple, Edappalli for last few years. He has served the community as the President of Kerala Brahmana Sabha, Perumbavoor Upasabha and District Organising Secretary (Ernakulam) of Kerala Brahmana Sabha. Mukundan was the State President of Union Bank Officers Association for a long time. Wife-Jayalakshmi, Children-Sowmya & Remya.

State Building Fund Mobilization Programme begins

The Kerala Brahmana Sabha, Ernakulam District has commenced the State Building Fund Mobilization Programme on Friday, 10th of September 2010. V. Krishnaswami, District President received Rs. 15,000/- from Prof. A. Subrahmaniam, Manager of Sri Sringeri Mutt, Kalady marking the beginning of the Fund Mobilization Programme in the District of Ernakulam. N. Ranganathan, K. S. Anantharaman (both State Committee Members) and N. R. Parameswaran (State Joint Secretary) were also present on the occasion. "The Ernakulam District will meet the target in time as we are receiving good responce from the members whom we are approaching" - said V. Krishnaswami. He also requested all the community members to contribute liberally to this venture.
A long dream of Kerala Brahmana Sabha - to own an administrative office to co-ordinate its activities in the state is getting materialized this year under the leadership of V. Ramalingam, State President. The decision to purchase the administrative office at Thripunithura was taken in the in the State Committee Meeting held at Thripunithura in March, 2010. All the Upasabhas and Districts of Kerala Brahmana Sabha in Kerala are actively participating in the State Building Fund Mobilization Programme.

Kitchen Block opened at Sankara Santhi Nilayam, Kalady

The newly constructed kitchen block at Sankara Santhi Nilayam was opened on Friday, the 10th September 2010. A 'Ganapathy Pooja' was held in connection with this under the auspices of Narayana Swami, Board Member of Santhi Nilayam. 'Paalukaachal' was also performed after the 'Ganapathy Pooja' by the inmates of the Santhi Nilayam. Sankara Santhi Nilayam is a Senior Citizen's Home at Kalady having nearly 50 inmates, run by Sree Sankara Santhi Nilayam and Educational Trust, Ernakulam. P. The fund was received by the office bearers on Sunday, 29th of August 2010 in a small function held at Capt. B. K. Iyer's residence. The fund was donated in connection with their daughter Vidya's marriage with Sanjeev Prasad which was solemnized on 20th of August 2010.

Sree Krishna Jayanthi was celebrated with colourful programmes at Perumbavoor Upasabha on Wednesday, the 1st of September 2010. The Youth Wing of the Upasabha participated in the procession with Bhajana and Tableau in connection with Sree Krishna Jayanthi organised by Balagokulam of Perumbavoor. K. Ganesha Purana Maha Yagnjam at Aluva from 5th to 11th September

A Ganesa Purana Maha Yagnjam is scheduled to be conducted from Sunday, the 5th of September 2010 to Saturday, the 11th September 2010 at Sree Mahaganapathy Dharmasastha Temple at Thottakkattukara, Aluva. Puranasree Alappatt Ramachandran of Thripunithura is the Yagna Acharyan. Yagnjam is conducted in connection with the Vinayaka Chathurthy celebrations this year. The discourse begins at 7.00 in the morning and ends by 5.45 in the evening with sufficient intervals in between. On the day of Vinayaka Chathurthy, Ashtadravya Maha Ganapathy Homam (1008 coconuts) will be held at 6.00 a.m. Prof. A. Subramaniam, Manager of Sri Sringeri Mutt, Kalady will inaugurate the Sree Ganesa Purana Yagnam by lighing the Bhadra Deepam at 8.00 a.m. on Sunday, the 5th September 2010. Annadhanam is also arranged for the devottees on all the days. H. Narayana Iyer, President and S. Avani Avittam - on the banks of the river Poorna at Kalady

Avani Avittam - the day Brahmins ritually change their Yajnopaveetham (Poonal) every year accompanied by Upakarma rituals was conducted at Kalady by the Upasabha on 24th of August 2010. Pramoda Bhat, Priest of Sringeri Sankara Mutt temple lead the Upakarma and about 50 members participated in the function.
