Educational Assistance in memory of Suryanarayana Iyer & Saradambal

An amount of Rs.10000 was donated by C. S. Venkiteswaran, native of Perumbavoor and presently residing at Mumbai as 'Educational assistance for the poor' to the Perumbavoor Upasabha in memory of his parents Suryanarayana Iyer and Saradambal. Handing over the amount, Venkiteswaran stated that his father used to say "Education is Capital to the Poor and Interest to the Rich". He also requested the Sabha officials that he may be given opportunity to continue this service every year. N. Ramachandran, District Vice President and President of Perumbavoor Upasabha appreciated the initiative of C. S. Venkiteswaran to help the financially backward students of Brahmin community.

Sree Sankarajayanthi Celebrations - Samashti Upanayanam for three children at Perumbavoor

Samashti Upanayanam for three children was conducted at Perumbavoor on Akshaya Thritheeya Day under the auspices of Nageswaran, the Samooham priest. The Samashti Upanayanam was jointly organized by the Kerala Brahmana Sabha, Perumbavoor Upasabha and Vadarkutti Brahmana Samooham in connection with Sree Sankara Jayanthi celebrations. The event was conducted with Udakasanthi Japam, Kumarabhojanam, Brahmopadesam and Ashirvadam. N. Ramachandran, President of Kerala Brahmana Sabha, Perumbavoor Upasabha and H. Ramanathan, President of Vadarkutti Samooham, Perumbavoor led the functions.

Maha Rudra Maha Yagnam held at Thripunithura

A Maha Rudra Maha Yagnam was held at Madappilly Samooham, Thripunithura on Sunday, the 24th of April 2011, organized by Sree Maha Rudra committee. Sri Rudram is an ancient Vedic hymn praising Lord Shiva in which the various attributes and aspects are invoked and worshipped.

When accompanied with the Vedic fire ritual, it is called the Rudra Yagnam. Sri Rudram – Comprising of Namakam and Chamakam Sri Rudram, is also known as Rudraprasna. It is part of the Yajur Veda - one of the greatest of the Vedic hymns for all round benefits of mankind. Maha Rudra Yagnam is one of the highest forms of community worship. This grand Vedic ceremony is for Universal peace and prosperity.

Dharmasreshta Award presented to Brahmasree P. Krishna Iyer

The Dharmasreshta Award for the year 2011 was presented to Brahmasree P. Krishna Iyer at Thrissur on Sunday, 1st of May 2011. It is for the outstanding contributions to the Spiritual Movement and in propagation of Sanskrit language. The award is instituted by Kerala Brahmana Sabha which carries a cash prize of Rs.10001, a citation and a statuette.

The award was presented by Justice T. L. Viswanatha Iyer on Sunday, the 1st of May 2011 at Janakee Nath Hall of Pushpagiri Brahmana Samooham, Thrissur. Dr. V. Ramalingam, State President of Kerala Brahmana Sabha presided over the meeting at 5.30 p.m.S. Moorthy (District Secretary, KBS, Thrissur) welcomed the gathering and P. Ananthasubramaniam (State General Secretary) delivered the vote of thanks. Prof. T. K. Devanarayanan President of KBS, Town Unit introduced the receipient of the award to the audience. The citation was presented by Prof. V. R. Ramakrishnan (Retired Principal, Kerala Varma College). Dr. P. S. Raman (State Vice President) and N. R. Parameswaran (State Joint Secretary) delivered felicitations.

Malliyoor Sankaran Namboothiri in 2006, M. H. Sasthrikal in 2007, K. V. Seshadrinatha Sasthrikal in 2008, Prof. V. Vaidyalinga Sarma in 2009 and Dr. M. Sambasivan in 2010 were the personalities to receive the honour in previous years.


P. Krishna Iyer is a Sanskrit scholar, residing at Thrissur since 1987. Born on 12th June 1928, Krishna Iyer had his schooling from Peringottukara high School and Pazhanji High School; later completed his graduation from St. Thomas College, Thrissur. He taught Mathematics in Peringottukara High School for a couple of years, then joined Postal Department in 1951 and retired in the year 1986 as Assistant Director. He started learning Sanskrit from his father and he successfully completed 'Samskritha Siromani' (Cultural Department, Government of Kerala) exam.

With his unparalelled style of rendering devotional and spiritual discourses, he has become a familiar personalty in the Bhagavatha Sapthaaha Sathrams conducted in various places. Since 1987, AIR (Thrissur) continues to telecast his discourses in the programme named 'Subhashitham' and a is the author of feature 'Mahabharatha Kathakal' appears in Sruthivani for last 196 issues. His contributions in the field of Namasankeerthana is also commendable.

P. Krishna Iyer is born to Parvathy Ammal and Perinkulam G. Padmanabha Sasthrikal who came to Thrissur from Palakkad to teach Sankrit in Brahmaswam Madhom Veda Padasala. Wife: Meenakshi (daughter of Somasundaram and Lakshmi Ammal, Nurani, Palakkad). Children: K. Geetha (bank of Baroda), Balaji (Malayala Manorama) and Sivakumar (Wipro). in-laws: Krishnamutrhy (Canara Bank), the honour in previous years.

The Brahmopadesam of Vivek Shanker (nephew of Balu Narayanan, State Joint Secretary, Kerala Brahmana Sabha) was held on Wednesday, 27th April 2011. He is son of Hema and Shanker residing at "Vaishnavi", Layam Road, Thripunithura. Leaders of Kerala Brahmana Sabha and friends and family members attended the function held at Rugmini Ramakrishna Kalyana Mandapam, Thripunithura.

Mathru-Devo-Bhava - a well attended camp

A one-day camp for brahmin women between the age of 15 and 30 was organised by the Vanitha Vibhagam of Kerala Brahmana Sabha, Ernakulam District on 3rd of April 2011 at Chinmaya International Foundation, Adisankara Nilayam located at Veliyanad near Piravom. The camp was named 'Mathu-Devo-Bhava' and was attended by 64 people from different Upasabhas in Ernakulam District. C. P. Thankam of Paravur cine-artist inaugurated the camp by lighting the vilakku. K. Annalakshmi, District President presided over the inaugural meeting.

Swami Athmaswaroopananda (Ramakrishna Ashramam, Nilambur) and P. VenkitaramaIyer (Former State President, Kerala Brahmana Sabha) handled the sessions. Athmaswaroopananda discussed the will power and courage of Indian women which has a strong cultural base. P. Venkitarama Iyer's session was on the subject 'Brahmana Samskaaram'.

Perumbavoor Upasabha to conduct Samashti Upanayanam on Akshaya Thrithiya Day

As part of Sree Sankara Jayanathi celeberations, Kerala Brahmana Sabha, Perumbavoor Upasabha in association with Vadarkutty Samooham will conduct Samashti Upanayanam on the day of Akshaya Thrithiya, Friday, 6th May 2011 at Perumbavoor Samooham Kalayana Mandapam. The Muhurtham falls in between 12.00 noon and 12.30 p. m., Kadaka Lagnam. N. Ramachandran, President of Perumbavoor Upasabha and H. Ramanathan, President of Vadarkutti Samooham announced this in a jointly released Press Release in which they reqeusted the presence on the occasion to bless the brahmacharis.

Congrats to Dr. Revathy Ramalingam

Dr. Revathi daughter of Dr. V. Ramalingam, President of Kerala Brahmana Sabha won first prize in solo singing competition in South Zone Inter Medical and Dental College Cultural Festival -Fusion Chettinad, held on 22nd April 2011 at Chettinad Health City, Kelambakam, Kancheepuram. Presently she is doing House Surgeoncy in Devraj Urs Medical College, Kolar.

Vaisakhi wins National Moot Court Competition

Vaisakhi R., student of National University of Advanced Legal Studies, Kochi along with Nandita Narayan and Shravan Kumar Y. emerged winners and bagged the title of the ‘BEST TEAM’ in the 1st ILNU (Institute of Law, Nirma University) National Moot Court Competition held at Ahmedabad during March, 2011. They defeated the students from Jamia Milia Islamia University, New Delhi in the finals. The competition was judged by the Honourable Justice Mohit Shah (Chief Justice, High Court of Judicature, Mumbai), Justice C. K. Thakker (Former Judge of the Supreme Court), Justice P. P. Bhat and Justice Tripathy (Judge of the Gujarat High Court) and Rodney Ryder (renowned author and Legal Advisor to the Ministry of Communication, Government of India). Thirty six teams across the country participated in the competition including seven from various National Law Universities in the country. Vaisakhi is daughter of S. Subbalakshmi (SBT, Ernakulam) and niece of S. Venkatesh, Secretary of Aluva Brahmana Samooham.

IKEN Scientifica First Round - Results announced

The results of the IKEN Scientifica exams has been published and the list of the students who are qualified to State finals is announced here by Harinath D., State Co-ordinator of Yuvajana Vibhagam of Kerala Brahmana Sabha. 70 students are qualified to the State Finals which will be held during first week of May 2011 at Calicut. EI Reports and the Invitation for the Second Round are sent to qualified students.

State Finals will be of Hands On Round, that is - it is merely of making science models from a given problem statement. All particpants at the State Finals will be awarded with a Medal and Certificate of Merit. There will be additional prizes for the best design etc., and many other prizes to be won in the state finals - said Karthik of IKEN at Kochi.
