Family Meet of Ernakulam City Unit held at Godrej House

The Kerala Brahmana Sabha, Ernakulam City Unit conducted a Family Meet at Godrej House, Panampilly Nagar on Sunday, the 18th of March 2012 at 04.00 p.m. for its members residing in Panampilly Nagar, Giri Nagar, Vidya Nagar and Indira Nagar. The meet was inaugurated by Bhama Padmanabhan, Councillor of Ward 56 and was chaired by J. Subramoni, President of KBS, Ernakulam City Unit. This is the first one in this series and it has been decided to conduct the Family Meet in all areas of the Ernakulam with an objective to appraise the community members about the activities of the Sabha and to collect ideas and suggestions from the members, said M. Vanchiswaran, Secretary.

Bhama Padmanabhan in her inaugural address stressed that the elders should ensure the participation of youngsters and children in this kind of meetings. J. Subramoni, explained the various activities of the KBS, Ernakulam City Unit like medical & educational aid, marriage assistance for the needy, pension scheme, Onam Trade Fair etc. in his presidential address. Ganesha Ganapadigal (Kinattunkara Samooham Vadhyar) enlightened the gathering about the importance of Sandhyavandanam and other rituals. He promised that he is willing to conduct classes on the above especially for the youngsters those who are interested. T. K. Narayanaswamy, Secretary of Gramajana Samooham, Ernakulam and former State Joint Secretary of Kerala Brahmana Sabha briefed the activities being organised jointly by the Gramajana Samooham and Sabha.

90 members attended the meeting which commenced with an introduction of the members. Majority of the members appreciated the Sabha for having arranged such a meet and wanted to have such meetings at least once in six months. M. Vanchiswaran, Secretary, KBS, Ernakulam City Unit welcomed the gathering. Baby Shanker, Secretary of KBS, Vanitha Vibhagam gave away the felicitation and P. R. Sankaranarayanan, Joint Secretary, KBS, Ernakulam City Unit delivered the vote of thanks. There was high tea after the meeting and the Family Meet came to an end by 6.00 p.m.

Sri Sri Bharathi Theertha to visit Kerala

His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Sri Bharathi Theertha Maha Swamigal of Sringeri Mutt is visiting Kerala from 4th of April to 17th of April 2012. His Holiness will reach the birthplace of Sri Adi Sankara on 6th of April 2012 and will stay there upto 11th of April. On 11th April 2012 at about 3.30 p.m. His Holiness will leave for Ernakulam and will be received at Pullepady Junction, Ernakulam at 4.30 p.m. with Panchavadyam, Nadaswaram and Veda Gosham. Swamigal will be taken in procession to Ernakulam Kinattunkara Samooha Madom. Sri Sri Bharathi Theertha will be given a ceremonial welcome with “Poornakumbam”. His Holiness will then deliver an “Anugraha Prabashanam” and other poojas will follow on that day along with "Pada Pooja". On the second day, 12th of April 2012, after the nithya poojas, the community members will get another opportunity for “Pada Pooja”. At about 4 p.m. on 12th of April, Maha Sannidhanam will leave for Mattanchery and on the way, Swamigal will be received at the Ernakulam Gramajana Samooham.

Jagadguru Sri Sri Bharathi Theertha will start from Coimbatore on 4th of April 2012 and visit Palakkad, Thrissur and reach Sri Sringeri Mutt at Kalady on 6th April 2012. On 12th April afternoon Swamigal will travel to Mattancherry and proceed to Alapuzha, Thiruvananthapuram and Thirunalveli.

Vishukkaineettam Brahmana Sabhakku

The Kerala Brahmana Sabha, Ernakulam District Committee wish you all a very Happy and Prosperous Vishu. The volunteers of Kerala Brahmana Sabha will reach every houses of its members to receive Vishukkaineettam for Sabha, by presenting a Calender of 'Nandana Nama Samvalsaram'. This is a fund raising activity to mobilise working fund for Kerala Brahmana Sabha. KBS requests its members to contribute an amount that is equivalent to his or her one-day income for this cause. V. Krishnaswami, District President, Ernakulam requests all the members to make this 'Vishukkaineettam Brahmana Sabhakku' programme a grand success.

Sree Ramanavami & Sasthapreethi of Muvattupuzha Brahmana Samooham

The Sree Ramanavami and Sasthapreethi of Muvattupuzha Brahmana Samooham will be held on Saturday, the 31st of March 2012 and Thursday, the 5th of April 2012 respectively. A Rudra Ekadasini will also be peformed on Sunday, the 1st of April 2012.

Unchavrithi will commence from Samooha Madom on 25th of March 2012 at 08.00 a.m. and will visit all Brahmin houses. The Sree Ramanavami day begins with Ganapathy Homam at 06.00 a.m., followed by Sree Rama Pooja, Sahasranama Archana, Ramayana Parayanam, Varadanam and Samaradhana. The Muvattupuzha Bhajana Sangham will then present a Bhajana.

Rudra Ekadasini is scheduled on 1st of April 2012 here. 11 'rithviks' will chant Sree Rudram and Chamakam followed by Vasordhara.

On Thursday, the 5th of April, the day of Sasthapreethi will start with a Ganapathy Homam at 06.00 a.m. Rudrabhishekam will be held thereafter followed by a Maha Sasthrupooja, bhajana and Samaradhana.

Seminar on Enterprenuership organised by Yuvajana Vibhagam


Seminar on Opportunities for Enterprenuership by Prof. C. S. Purushothaman
A seminar on 'Opportunities for Enterprenuership' was held on Monday, 12th of March 2012 at Ernakulam. Prof. C. S. Purushothaman, Director and Chairman of SIES School of Packaging and Shraddha Sawant, a research scholar in food technology handled the sessions. The two-hour seminar focused on the packaging and branding of food products. C. S. Purushothaman explained the opportunities in food packaging industry especially for the typical tamil brahmin receipie. More than 50 people from various upasabhas in Ernakulam District attended the seminar.

Prof. C. S. Purushothaman is a Post Graduate Rank Holder in Chemistry from University of Mumbai. He has an experience over 41 years in packaging. C. S. Purushothaman is an authority in the packaging of food products and shelf life studies. Also he has associated with many multinational brands as consultant. He has visited more than 28 countries for education, market survey, sourcing and as consultant. He is a member of American Society for Quality, Institute of Packaging, International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (UK), National Safety Council (India), Fellow of the Chemical Society of India, Fellow of Institute of Chemist India and Licentiate of the Federation of Insurance Institute.

Maha Rudra Maha Yagnam at Dubai on 23rd March 2012

A Maha Rudra Maha Yagnam is scheduled to be conducted on Friday, the 23rd of March 2012  at the Emirates English Speaking School, Near Al Safa Park, Dubai. Maha Ganapathy Homam will be performed at 4.00 a. m. followed by Maha Sankalpam, Kalasa Sthapanam, Mahanyasam, Sree Rudra Japam, Abhishekam, Rudra Homam, Vasordhara, Poornahuthi, Kramarchana, Kalasa Abhishekam, Alankaram, Maha Deeparadhana, Asheervadam and Samaradhana.

Maha Rudra Maha Yagnam is being performed for the well being of mankind as well as for global peace and prosperity, and continual growth of UAE, the country where all live comfortably with the kindheartness of the Rulers - His Highness Late Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayad Al Nahyan and His Highness Shaikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum - said the officials of Dubai Pradosham, the organisers of Maha Rudram. Kalady Sasthapreethi held on 10th March 2012

Sasthapreethi (for Nayathode Samooham) was held at Sankara Santhi Nilayam, Kalady on Saturday, 10th of March 2012. Ganapathy Homam and Bhagavathy Seva were performed under the auspices of Ramani in the previous day. On 10th morning, Rudra Abhishekam, Mahanyasam and Kramarchana were performed in the leadership of Acharya Narendra Bhutt and his students of Sri Singeri Mutt, Kalady.  After the Sasthapooja, a Bhajana by Rajaram (Ernakulam) and H. Ramanathan (Perumbavoor) was held with Sasthampattu. The program came to and end by Samaradhana at 1.30 p.m.

The leaders of Kerala Brahmana Sabha visited Anbu Illam - an old age home run by Kerala Brahmana Sabha at Kozhikode on Tuesday, the 6th of March 2012. Six in-mates are accomodated at Anbu Illam. The team was lead by P. Ananthasubramaniam (State General Secretary) and K. G. V. Pathy (State Treasurer), Mohandas S. (State Joint Secretary), S. Sivaramakrishnan (District President, KBS, Thrissur), D. Murthy (District Secretary, KBS, Thrissur), V. Krishnaswami (District President, KBS, Ernakulam), A. G. Ganesh Venkitachalam (District Secretary, KBS, Ernakulam), R. Hariharaputhran (District Treasurer, KBS, Ernakulam and State Committee Member) and M. Vanchiswaran (Secretary, KBS, Ernakulam City Unit and State Committee Member) accompanied. Sweets were distributed to the inmates.

Kerala Brahmana Sabha on Piravom by election

The District Committee of Kerala Brahmana Sabha held on Sunday, the 4th of March 2012 decided to support the front which responds positively to their demands in the Piravom by election. A press release issued to meadias states that the community is greatly affected by the Reservation policies and Land Reforms Act in Kerala. It also states the the Brahmin community is facing a set back in educational-employment-industrial-trade sectors. V. Krishnaswami, District President chaired the meeting. Dr. P. S. Raman (State Vice President)P. Ananthasubramaniam (State General Secretary), K. G. V. Pathy (State Treasurer), N. Ramachandran (District Vice President), Ganesh Venkitachalam A. G (District Secretary) and R. Hariharaputhran (District Treasurer) addressed the members.

CA S. S. Ayyar of Kottayam completes 50 years practice

CA S. S. Iyer, former State President of Kerala Brahmana Sabha has completed 50 years of practice as a Charted Accountant. He is an active member of the Kerala Brahmana Sabha for more than 25 years. He was also the President of Kottayam Brahmana Samooham for 17 years. The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, Kottayam Chapter honoured  CA S. S. Ayyar who had completed 50 years as Chartered Accountant in a meeting of the Institute held at Kottayam.

Born to Late. CA S. Srinivasa Iyer and Late. Gomathy Ammal at Moncompu (Kuttanad) moved and settled at  Kottayam at the age of 29. He took First Class Graduate Degree in Mathematics from the University College, Thiruvananthapuram and a Fellow Member of the Institute of Chartered Accounts of India. He did Articleship with father and started practice since 1959 and presently the Managing Partner of S. S. Ayyar and Co., Chartered Accountants, Kottayam. Wife - S. Vijayalakshmy. Children - CA Prem Gomathy, CA Prasanth Srinivas. Son-in-law - CA C. Ramachandran, Daughter in law - CA Ramya N. Grand sons – Anand, Aravind, Sankaranarayanan and Narayanaswamy.

He has following achievements to his credit:
  • Served as the Chairman of Institute of Chartered Accountants of India of Ernakulam branch and as first Chairman of the Kottayam branch.
  • Served the University of Kerala as the Faculty of Commerce.
  • Founder Member of the Lions Club of Kottayam. Served the Lions movement as District Cabiniet Secretary, District Cabinet Treasurer and as Deputy District Governor.
  • Member of the Senior Citizens Forum, Kottayam.
  • Member of the Lotus Club, Kochi and the Rama Varma Union Club, Kottayam.

V. Krishnaswami condoles death of P. K. Narayana Panicker

V. Krishnaswami, District President of Kerala Brahmana Sabha, Ernakulam District condoled the death of NSS (Nair Service Society) President P. K. Narayana Panicker who passed away at a private nursing home at Changanacherry on Wednesday, the 29th February 2012. In a press release, he said Panicker, who had been the General Secreatry and President of the NSS during the past 28 years maintained good relationship and respect with other religions and communities.

Skandapuranam, Thaipooyam, Yaamapooja at Aluva Brahmana Samooham

The Skandapuranam - organised by Aluva Brahmana Samooham was inaugurated by Swami Sivaswaroopananda of Advaitha Asramam, Aluva on 1st of February 2012 at Samooham Bhajana Madom Hall. Brahmasree C. K. Premachandran Kedamangalam (Yagna Acharyan), H. Narayana Iyer (President, Aluva Brahmana Samooham) S. Venkitesh (Vice President, Aluva Brahmana Samooham) and Prof. Dr. S. Sitaraman (President, Kerala Brahmana Sabha, Aluva Upasabha) were also present on the occasion. Swami Sivaswaroopananda was draped a Ponnada by H. Narayana Iyer on the occasion.

In connection with Thaipooyam, on 7th of February 2012, the Kavadi procession started from Sree Mahaganapathy Temple premises and went upto Sree Mahadeva Temple at Aluva Manappuram. Kavadi Abhishekam and Brahmakalasam were also performed on Valli Devasena Sametha Sree Subrahmania Swami. There were Palkavadi, Panineerkavadi, Chandanakavadi, Panchamrithakavadi and Bhasmakavadi in the procession.

Sree Mahaganapathy Dharmasastha Temple at Aluva celebrated Maha Sivarathri (20th February 2012). Four 'yaama' poojas were performed with 'ekadasa rudra abhishekam'. Sree Rudram and Chamakam were chanted eleven times with abhishekam, nivedhyam and deeparadhana. Seetharama Vadhyar, Samooham Priest of Aluva Brahmana Samooham lead the pooja and abhishekam.
