Honourable Justice V. Chidambaresh inaugurated Asraya Bhavan, Thrissur

Asraya Bhavan, a home for the poor and destitutes of the Brahmin community was inaugurated at Moorkanikkara, Thrissur on 29th January 2012 by Honourable Justice of Kerala High Court, V. Chidambaresh. In his inaugural address, he said elders are an asset to every family and we should try our maximum to accomodate them with the family. Asraya Bhavan is something like a 'home away from home' and hence perfect screening is required to select the inmates, he added. The meeting was chaired by S. Sivaramakrishnan, District President, Kerala Brahmana Sabha, Thrissur. In his presidential address, he expressed his gratitude to all well wishers who contributed to the project, especially to Veembil Samooham, who donated the land before 26 years back. Dr. V. Ramalingam, State President of Kerala Brahmana Sabha handed over the key to the inmates. A. K. Vaidyanathan, aged 83 received the key from Dr. V. Ramalingam. He appreciated the sincere efforts of Thrissur district of Kerala Brahmana Sabha to materialise the Asraya Bhavan project. Friends and well wishers including senior and State leaders from all over Kerala attended the function.

The evening commenced with a rythm fusion lead by Mridangam artist Kuzhalmandam Ramachandran. The inaugural meeting started at 6.00 p. m. with a Veda chant. The dignotories were welcomed to the dias and draped by Ponnadai as a token of love and respect. T. S. Kalyanaraman (Vice President, Kerala Brahmana Sabha, Thrissur Town Unit) delivered the introductory speech in which he briefed the efforts strength behind the project. Dr. P. S. Raman (State Vice President), P. Ananthasubramaniam (State General Secretary), T. S. Viswanatha Iyer (State Committee Member, Kerala Brahmana Sabha), Sujatha Baburajan (President, Nadathara Grama Panchayath), V. Parameswaran (Project Co-ordinator, Asraya Bhavan) and V. A. Krishnan (Member, Theroth Siva Temple) also addressed the gathering. Prof. Deva Narayanan (President, Kerala Brahmana Sabha, Town Unit, Thrissur) delivered welcome speech and N. R. Parameswaran, Secretary, Central Zone said the vote of thanks.

Asraya Bhavan is located on the banks of the river Thrikkoor Puzha in Nadathara Grama Panchayath, near Theroth Siva Temple at Moorkkanikkara. 10 rooms on twinsharing basis with all modern facilities including Medical Room are equipped here. A Prayer hall and a Recreation room is also set up here for the inmates. Mukthi Bhavan, a place for 'Aparakriya' which is open to all community members has also started functioning here.

‘A’ Grade for K. M. Subramania Iyer in State School Youth Festival

K. M. Subramania Iyer known as Murugan son of K. S. Mahadeva Iyer and Subalakshmi Mahadevan, Municipal Councillor secured ‘A’ Grade in Sanskrit Gaanalaapanam for Boys in High School level in the recently held Kerala State School Youth Festival at Thrissur. He is studying in 8th standard in Sree Venkiteswara School, Thripunithura.

He is born in a family of seasoned musicians. His mother is a music teacher and Uncle, a Bhajana Artist. He is actively involved in Chakkamkulangara Bhajana Sangham. Subramania Iyer became a familiar face among Kerala Brahmana Sabha by his prize winning performances in Kalanjali. He is also getting trained in Mridangam. Congratulations to K. M. Subramania Iyer.

Sree Rama Navami Coupon sales at Ernakulam

Dr. V. Ramalingam, State President of Kerala Brahmana Sabha inaugurated the Sree Rama Navami Coupon Sales at Hanuman Temple, Ernakulam on Thursday, 5th January 2012. Padmanabha Kurup, proprietor of Sree Krishna Inn received the cash from Dr. Ramalingam. The devotees  are celebrating Sree Ramanavami with great enthusiasm.

Republic Day Celebrations at Perumbavoor Upasabha

The 63rd Republic Day was celebrated in a grand manner at Perumbavoor Upasabha on 26th of January 2012. Programmes commenced with the flag hoisting ceremony held at Samooham Mandapam in the morning. N. Ramachandran, President of Upasabha and Vice President, Kerala Brahmana Sabha, Ernakulam District hoisted the flag in presence of Sabha members. Children sung patriotic songs on the occasion.

Various competitions for members in different age groups were held at Samooham Mandapam. Competitions were held in Pallamkuzhi, Carroms, Musical Chair, Slokam Chanting and Manthram Chanting. Memory Test was another interesting competition conducted for members in the age group of 60 to 80,  drew much attraction of members. The programmes came to an end in the afternoon and a delicious lunch was arranged. The competitions were conducted under the leadership of R. Natesan (Vice President, Kerala Brahmana Sabha, Perumbavoor Upasabha), V. Krishnan (Joint Secretary Kerala Brahmana Sabha, Perumbavoor Upasabha), H. Balakrishnan (Treasurer, Kerala Brahmana Sabha, Perumbavoor Upasabha), Lakshmi H. Iyer (Secretary, Vanitha Vibhagam, Kerala Brahmana Sabha, Perumbavoor Upasabha) S. R. Parvathy (District Committee Member, Vanitha Vibhagam, Kerala Brahmana Sabha), Rajalakshmi (Joint Secretary, Vanitha Vibhagam, Kerala Brahmana Sabha, Perumbavoor Upasabha) and Mahadevan (Secretary, Yuvajana Vibhagam, Kerala Brahmana Sabha, Perumbavoor Upasabha).

In the closing ceremony held thereafter was chaired by N. Ramachandran, President of Perumbavoor Upasabha. H. Ramanathan (President, Vadarkutti Brahmana Samooham), K. Krishna Iyer (Secretary, Vadarkutti Brahmana Samooham), J. Lalitha (President, Vanitha Vibhagam, Kerala Brahmana Sabha, Perumbavoor Upasabha), Kamala Hariharan (Secretary, Narayaneeyam Seva Samithy) distributed prizes for the winners. K. Hari (Secretary, Kerala Brahmana Sabha, Perumbavoor Upasabha) welcomed the audience and H. Vanchiswwaran (President, Yuvajana Vibhagam, Perumbavoor Upasabha) said the vote of thanks.

The family meet of the members of the Kerala Brahmana Sabha, Aluva Upasabha was held at Brahmana Samooham Bhajana Madom, Thottakkattukara on 22nd January 2012. The elected state office bearers from Ernakulam District were also honoured on the occasion. Prof. Dr. S. Sitaraman presided over the meeting. V. Krishnaswami (District President, Kerala Brahmana Sabha, Ernakulam District) inaugurated the family meet by lighting up the Nilavilakku.

Senior members of the Aluva Upasabha were honoured on the occasion. They were draped Ponnada and presented mementoes as a token of love and respect. Also State office bearers, P. Ananthasubramaniam (State General Secretary), K. G. V. Pathy (State Treasurer), Mohandas S. (State Joint Secretary) and N. R. Parameswaran (Secretary, Central Zone) were draped Ponnada for being elected to the state leadership for the year 2011-2013.  H. Narayana Iyer (President, Brahmana Samooham, Aluva), Prof. Kalyani G. Murthy (President, Vanitha Vibhagam, Kerala Brahmana Sabha, Aluva Upasabha), Bhagyalakshmi (Secretary, Yuvajana Vibhagam, Kerala Brahmana Sabha, Aluva Upasabha) addressed the gathering. The state leaders who were given reception also shared a few words with the audience. K. G. V. Pathy (State Treasurer and Vice President, Kerala Brahmana Sabha, Aluva Upasabha) welcomed the gathering and C. G. Subramanian (Secretary, Kerala Brahmana Sabha, Aluva Upasabha) said the vote of thanks. Variety entertaintments by the members and competitions were held thereafter.

N. Viswanathan donates 26 Cents of land to Koovappady Maha Ganapathy Temple

N. Viswanathan, son of late. K. S. Narayana Iyer has donated 26 cents of land to Sree Maha Ganapathy Temple, Koovappady on Wednesday, 4th of January 2012. The donated land will be utilized for providing better basic amenities to the devotees. Viswanathan was honoured by the Koovappady Brahmana Samooham on Saturday, 21st of January 2012, on the day of Sastha Preethy in appreciation of this act. Harinarayanan, former President of Koovappady Brahmana Samooham presented a memento to N. Viswanathan. M. S. G. Iyer (President, Koovappady Brahmana Samooham), Gopalakrishnan Nair (Document writer), V. P. Mahadeva Iyer (Vice President, Koovappady Brahmana Samooham) and Dr. S. The last State Committee of Kerala Brahmana Sabha held at Ernakulam nominated M. Vanchiswaran, R. Hariharaputhran and K. A. Narayanaswami of Ernakulam District to the State Committee for the period of 2011-2013. M. Vanchiswaran and K. A. Narayanaswami are nominated with five other members from other parts of Kerala. The other members are S. S. Iyer (Kottayam), Brinda Hariharan (Kozhikode), R. Balasubramaniam (Kollam), K. Krishna Iyer (Alapuzha) and R. Parameswaran (Thrissur). R. Hariharaputhran is the Special Invitee to the State Committee with charge of State Blog - www.kbskerala.blogspot.com. Also Kothandarama Iyer from Thiruvananthapuram has been nominated for Brahmasandesam. M. Vanchiswaran is Secretary of Kerala Brahmana Sabha, Ernakulam City Unit and R. Hariharaputhran is District Treasurer of Ernakulam District Committee.

Vaikunta Ekadasi & Makaravilakku celebrations at Samooham Temple, Aluva

Vaikunta Ekadasi celebrated at Aluva Brahmana Samooham on Thursday, the 5th January 2012 with parayanam of Sampoorna Narayaneeyam at Samooham Bhajana Madam. In connection with Makaravilakku celebrations on Sunday, the 15th of January 2012 (1187 Makaram 1st) after Deeparadhana in the evening 'PUSHPABHISHEKAM' was be performed on the Deities - Sree Mahaganapathy, Sree Dharmasastha, Valli-Devasena sametha Sree Subramanya Swami and Abhayavaradhana Navagraha Devathas.  After Pushpabhishekam, Maha Deeparadhana was held and prasadams were distributed.

Congratulations to Divya Balakrishnan

Divya Balakrishnan, d/o. Capt. B. K. Iyer and Vijaya Balakrishnan of Kumaranasan Nagar, Kochi has successfully completed the prestigious CFA Charter exam conducted by the CFA Institute of USA. She did her B. E. from National University of Singapore under Singapore Airlines Scholarship in 2004. Divya is married to Sanjeev Prasad who is an IIT/IIM scholar, settled in Mumbai. Divya has one younger sister Bhavya, doing her BA at Manipal University. Congratulations to Divya on her achievement.

Bhagavatha Sapthaham at Aluva Brahmana Samooham

Sreemad Bhagavatha Sapthaha Yagnam was organised by the Aluva Brahmana Samooham at Samooham Bhajana Madom from 24th December to 31st December 2011. Bhagavathacharyan Moozhikulam Sreekandeswaram Soma Warrier lighted the Nilavilakku, marking the beginning of the Yagnam followed by 'Mahathmya Prabhashanam'.

Brahmashree Mumbai Chandrasekhara Sharma, Madasseri Unnikrishnan Namboothiri, Aluva Devan Namboothiri and Kochi Gopalji lead the Yagnam. Prof. Dr. S. Sitaraman (Committee Member and President, Kerala Brahmana Sabha, Aluva Upasabha) welcomed the devotees and S. Venkitesh (Vice President) said the vote of thanks in the inaugural session presided by H. Narayanan Iyer (President, Aluva Brahmana Samooham) of the Bhagavatha Sapthaha Yagnam.

Laksharchana at Koovappady

A Laksharchana for Lord Ayyappa was conducted in the Shree Mahaganapathy Temple, Koovappady on 24th December 2011 by Koovappady Brahmana Samooham. The Laksharchana started at 9.00 in the morning followed by Annadanam. Before Laksharchana, Ganapathy Homam and Rudrabhishekam  were also  performed.
