It was the decision of State Committee of Kerala Brahmana Sabha to conduct Vipra Vismayam and Kalanjali in alternate years to encourage Brahmin youth to associate with the activities of Kerala Brahmana Sabha. The first Vipra Vismayam was held at Thiruvananthapuram in 2008 and Kalanjali was held at Alapuzha in 2009. The State Committee under the leadership of Dr. V. Ramalingam further decided to conduct cultural competitions annually for children who are below 18 years of age to attract them towards the brahmanic culture and the events were slokam chanting, manthra chanting, bhajana, kolamidal etc. The Ernakulam District happily organized the district level competitions at Perumbavoor in connection with the inauguration of District Yuvajana Vibhagam in September 2010. It was then I noticed few volunteers who enthusiastically carried out the administrative side of the event. With their sincere effort and systematic way of execution with the help of volunteers of Perumbavoor Upasabha, the events were conducted smoothly and the results were declared on the same day itself. The overall conduct of the Perumbavoor programme was widely appreciated by the members of the community too. As the District President, this experience gave me much confidence to entrust the conduct of District level Vipra Vismayam to these 5 gentlemen – I wish to mention them as ‘Pancharathnangal’ – by appointing them in key positions. They proved themselves in the organizing of Vipra Vismayam at FACT, Udyogamandal to its class which justified my decision.
In the immediate State Committee, our district was requested to host the State level Vipra Vismayam and I took charge as the General Convener. It was the confidence and trust mainly with the ‘Pancharathnas’ too that made me accept the request. As desired by Dr. V. Ramalingam, State President, it was unanimously decided to conduct the event at Mattancherry during 5th and 6th of February 2011. The synchronization between the members of Mattancherry Upasabha, Vanitha Vibhagam and Yuvajana Vibhagam requires special mention. It was magnificent to see the ‘Pancharathnangal’ joining the Mattancherry crew and becoming one among them in just a few seconds. All these factors resulted in a systematic execution of the events and naturally we could announce and distribute the prizes to the winners in the eve of each day.
Again, the Yuva fest, Prathibha 2011 was convened by the District Committee of Kerala Brahmana Sabha in association with Ernakulam City Unit and Ernakulam Gramajana Samooham to distribute the prizes of various district level competitions and state merit awards. The office bearers of City Unit including Vanitha Vibhagam, Gramajana Samooham and the ‘Pancharathnangal’ joined together to make the eve a memorable one.
It is my pleasure and privilege to have these kinds of immensely talented volunteers with me to go ahead with community service. Let more and more people get inspired by the dedicated work carried out by these gentlemen. Once again I request all community members to join the activities of Kerala Brahmana Sabha Sabha.
