AGB of Perumbavoor Upasabha held on 26th June 2011

The Annual General Body of Kerala Brahmana Sabha, Perumbavoor Upasabha expressed their protest against the price hike of Cooking Gas, Kerosene and Diesel which directly affects the family budget of common man. Also the meeting requested the government for adequate representation for the Brahmin community members in the Corporations and Boards in Kerala.

The academic achievers, both school and college level were honoured in the meeting. The financial aid for students who are financially backward were distributed in the meeting. N. Venkitachalam, the recepient of  the Janamaithri Police Award and Bharath Krishna who secured FIDE rating were honoured in the meeting. S. Muralidas and S. Krishnamurthy attended the meeting representing the District Committee as observers. N. N. Hariharan, S. Lakshmanan, S. Ramachandran, Dr. H. Venkitachalam, N. Hariharasubramanian, N. Venkitachalam addressed the gathering. Prof. V. H. Narayanaswami delivered the welcome address and S. R. Parvathy said the vote of thanks.

The Annual General Body of Vanitha Vibhagam and Yuvajana Vibhagam of Kerala Brahmana Sabha, Perumbavoor Upasabha were held thereafter and new office bearers were elected. Vanitha Vibhagam: J. FIDE rating for Bharath Krishna, Perumbavoor

Bharath Krishna, son of Prof. Dr. H. Venkitachalam, Kizhakke Puthen Madhom and Vijayalakshmi has been rated 1562 in the FIDE (World Chess Federation) International Chess Rating. He is studying in 8th standard in Vidyodaya School, Thevakkal. FIDE is an international organization that connects the various national chess federations around the World and acts as the governing body of international chess competition. Congratulations to Bharath in his achievement.

Aluva Brahmana Samooham demands bus route

The Annual General Body Meeting of Aluva Brahmana Samooham passed a resolution requesting the Transport Minister of Government of Kerala to take necessary steps to divert some of the bus services to Paravur, Angamali and Kalady directions through Thottakkattukara Ganapathy Temple - Manappuram – GCDA road – Paravur Kavala. Also the resolutions urged the Railways to provide stop for all trains passing through Aluva. Separate resolutions were passed requesting the Government to ensure Brahmin representation in all bodies and demanded withdrawal or reduction in fuel price.

The Annual General Body Meeting of Aluva Brahmana Samooham was held at Samooham Bhajana Madam, Thottakkattukara, Aluva on 26th June 2011.  K. G. V. Pathy, Vice President welcomed the gathering.  S. Venkatesh, Secretary presented the annual report and R. H. S.  Mony read out the audited accounts statements for the year 2010-11.  H. Narayana Iyer, President of the Brahmana Samooham presided over the meeting. Swaminathan, K. N. Ananthanarayanan, A. N. Kannan, J. Hariharan, Sankar, S. Krishnamurthy, J. Narayanaswamy  and M. H. S. Mony were also present on the occasion.

N. Mahadevan (CGPA 10), Aiswarya (CGPA 9.6) and Varshne (CGPA 8.4) for 10th (CBSE-CCE); Sreevidya B. (94%), Sanju Krishna (89%) and N. Sivaramakrishnan (81%) for Kerala State HSE; Rameshwar H., (78% for B. A. Media Studies-Digital Film & Recording Arts) from Dibrugarh University for Degree were presented the Educational Merit Awards 2011 by H. Narayana Iyer, President of the Brahmana Samooham.

Dr. Sitaraman received Green Golden Feather Environment Puraskar

Prof. Dr. S. Sitaraman, renowned environmental activist and Secretary of Association of Environmental Protection was presented the 'Green Golden Feather Environment Puraskar' on 11th June 2011 at a function held at Hotel Dreams, Ernakulam. The award is instituted by Team Solar, a leading renewable energy group and was presented by K. P. Mohanan, Minister for Agriculture in presense of company officials and Hybi Edan, MLA, Ernakulam. Prof. Dr. S. Sitaraman is the President of Kerala Brahmana Sabha, Aluva Upasabha.

The Kerala Brahmana Sabbha, Ernakulam District Committee collected an amount of Rupees 163914/- through "Vishukkaineettam Brahmana Sabhakku" project this year. The annual fund collection drive is highly accepted among the members and this has become an interactive session between the members and the volunteers of Sabha. The fund was collected from eleven Upasabhas of Ernakulam District and the amount was handed over to State Committee on Sunday, 12th June 2011 at the District Committee Office at Gramajana Samooham, Ernakulam. The amount was received by Dr. V. Ramalingam, State President from V. Krishnaswami, District President.

Discourse by Dharmasreshta Seshadrinatha Sasthrikal at Ernakulam

A discourse on Dharmasasthra and its importance in the present age was held at Gramajana Samooham on 9th and 10th of May 2011. Dharmasreshta K. V. Seshadrinatha Sasthrikal discussed the subject, encouraging the audience to follow the Dharmasasthra in a Brahmin’s life. Community members listened to the great master and got clarified with their doubts.

Samashti Upanayanam held on 20th May 2011

Gramajana Samooham, Ernakulam organised Samashti Upanayanam on 20th of May 2010 for our children.

Sasthapreethi at Gramajana Samooham, Ernakulam


The Gramajana Samooham, Ernakulam celebrated Sasthapreethi on Saturday, the 9th of April 2010 in a grand manner. Bhajana was organized on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, 6th, 7th and 8th respectively from 6 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. at Samooham Hall. Gouri Sankara Bhajanamandali led by N. S. Venkitaraman on 6th; Kalaivani, Ernakulam on 7th and Ernakulam Samooham Bhajanamandali lead by T. S. Rajaraman on 8th performed and large number of devotees participated with great enthusiasm.

On the day of Sasthapreethi, Chakkamkulangara Bhajana Samithi, Thripunithura performed Bhajans in the evening, followed by Sasthampattu lead by Kutty Mama of Alappuzha. Also Vanchipattu was held in the leadership of Pammechu Mama from 8 p.m. onwards.

Bhajan Classes commenced at Gramajana Samooham

Green Golden Feather Environment Puraskar & Paristhithi Rathna Award for Prof. Dr. S. Sitaraman

Prof. Dr. S. Sitaraman, renowned environmental activist and Secretary of Association of Environmental Protection have been selected for the 'Green Golden Feather Environment Puraskar' instituted by Global Management of Team Solar, a leading renewable energy group. Besides Dr. Sitaraman, other awardees for Green Golden Feather Environment Puraskar are Fr. Johnson J. Palakkappillil, Principal, Sacred Heart College and Dr. Georgekutty Karianappalli, CEO, Lifeway Solar. Malayalam film star Mammooty is among six persons chosen for the ‘Virgin Earth Golden Feather Environment Awards 2011’ and 'Green Golden Feather Environment Puraskar' award for their work in the field of environmental protection. The 'Virgin Earth Golden Feather Environment Award will be also presented to Tony Chamminy, Mayor of Kochi Corporation and K. K. Krishnadas, CEO of Vallarpadam Transhipment Terminal-DP World.

The award will be presented by K. P. Mohanan, Minister for Agriculture on 11th June 2011, said K. Liju, Regional Manager of Team Solar announcing the names of Award winners. It is as part of the global environmental initiatives, the Team Solar announced Golden Feather Awards all over the world for the outstanding performance in different areas of environmental protection. While the Virgin Earth Golden Feather Environment Award carries a prize of Rs.25,000 each along with mementos, the Green Golden Feather Environment Puraskar carries a prize of Rs.15,000 each along with mementos.

The Paristhithi Rathna Award instituted by the School News was also won by Prof. Dr. S. Sitaraman. He was chosen for this title, considering the various environmental awareness programmes demonstrated, said School News co-ordinator, Mytheen Shah Master.

Prof. Dr. Sitaraman has authored two books, The Periyar Action Plan and  Periyar-the life line of Kerala. Presently he is the President of Aluva Paristhithi Sangham, Secretary of Kerala Nadi Samrakshana Samithi and District Co-ordinator of Deseeya Haritha Sena. The Award will be presented by K. B. Ganesh Kumar, Minister for Forests & Enviornment on 28th August 2011 in a function at Mar Athanasious High School, Kakkanad.

Recently he was again elected the President of Kerala Brahmana Sabha, Aluva Upasabha. Congratulations to Dr. S. Sitaraman in his achievements.
