Jayaram honoured with Padma Shri

Popular film actor, mimicry artist and an able chenda percussionist Jayaram, who is a Life Member of Kerala Brahmana Sabha from Perumbavoor Upasabha, was named for the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian honour on the eve of Republic Day on Tuesday. He reached his home town on Wednesday, the 26th of January 2011 to visit Perumbavoor Dharmasastha Temple. N. Ranganathan, State Committee Member of Kerala Brahmana Sabha honoured him by draping a Ponnada.


His debut film was ‘Aparan’ directed by Padmarajan. He has won the Best Actor Award for the tamil film ‘Tennali’ and V. Santharam Award for the film ‘Sesham’. Congratulations to Padma Shri Jayaram!

Youth should uphold the brahmin culture – T. S. Viswanatha Iyer

Veteran leader and State Committee Member of Kerala Brahmana Sabha, T. S. Viswanatha Iyer urged the youngsters to uphold the brahmin culture that is based on values. He was addressing the meeting organized by Yuvajana Vibhagam of Kerala Brahmana Sabha, Perumbavoor Upasabha to celebrate the Youth Day. Youngsters should work hard to retain the Samooha Madoms which are considered as the back bone of Tamil Brahmin community - he said.

The meeting was presided over by H. Vanchiswaran, President of Yuvajana Vibhagam. Prof. A. Subramanian Iyer, Manager of Sri Sringeri Mutt, Kalady inaugurated the meeting. N. Ramachandran (President, Perumbavoor Upasabha), H. Ramanathan (President, Vadarkutti Samooham), K. Hari (Municipal Counciller), S. Suparna (Vice President, Yuvajana Vibhagam, Perumbavoor Upasabha) and R. Aiswarya addressed the gathering. Variety entertainments by Yuvajana Vibhagam were held after the meeting.

Yuvajana Vibhagam to conduct IKEN Scientifica test for children

The Yuvajana Vibhagam of Kerala Brahmana Sabha associates with IKEN - India’s largest Science & Technology competition. Iken Scientifica endeavours to provide students a real-world exposure through application of scientific concepts. It is based on the belief that every child is a genius and it is through harnessing their inquisitiveness and curiosity that a gap can be built between theory and practical learning. It gives children the opportunity to prove their mettle on a national platform. More than 60 students representing Kerala Brahmana Sabha are participating in this competition. Yuvajana Vibhagam conducts this in connection with the Youth Day/Vivekanada Birthday Celebrations this year. The Examination will be held at the following places. Thaippooyam Celebrations held at Aluva

In connection with Thaipooyam festival this year, the Aluva Brahmana Samooham conducted 'Skandapurana Mahayagnam' at Sree Mahaganapathy Dharmasastha Temple at Thottakkattukara, Aluva on Sunday, 16th January. The Samooham Priest T. A. Seetharaman inaugurated the Yagnam by lighting the Bhadradeepam at 6.30 p. m., followed by Mahathmya Prabhashanam by Yagnacharyan, Puranasree Alappatt Ramachandran. From 17th to 20th of January, Ganapathy Homam and Abhishekam were performed in the morning. Subramanya Sahasranama parayanam and Subramania Bhujanga parayanam recital was also held at Samooham Bhajana Madam. Skandapuranam, written by Veda Vyasa with 81000 slokas describes the importance and details of all theerthas and temples of ancient India.

On the day of 'Thaipooyam', 20th of January 2010, a procession with 'Palkudam' and 'Kavadi' - filled with dravyas for Abhishekam started from Sopanam of Sree Mahaganapathy lead to Manappuram Mahadeva Temple. The procession then returned to the temple for Kavadi Abhishekam to Valli Devasena Sametha Subramanya Swamy. The Yagna Vedhi then listened to the grandha mahima and falasruthi of Yagnam then held the Yagna Samarpanam. The functions came to an end with 'Kal Kazhukkichu Oottu' - praying Lord Shanmugha.

K. Ramasubramaniam (84), President of Edappalli Samooham passes away

K. Ramasubramaniam (84), President of Edappalli Brahmana Samooham passed away on Sunday, the 9th of January 2011 at Edappalli. He retired from Aspinwall & Co. Ltd. and was leading his retired life at Edappalli. He is District Committee Member of Kerala Brahman Sabha and was the 'Kizhikkarar' of Karantharpalayam Maha Samooham at Mattancherry for a long time. Funeral will be held today at 2.00 p. m. at Edappalli. Wife: Parvathy Ammal (Raji). Children: R. Krishnan (Aspinwall & Co. Ltd.), R. Doraiswami (Indian Overseas Bank), R. Narayanan (Liberty Automobiles, Dubai), R. Rugmini. Daughter/Son in laws: Kamali (Standard Charted Bank), Lalitha, Prasanna, V. Ernakulam District all set for State level Vipra Vismayam

The Kerala Brahmana Sabha, Ernakulam District will field a team of 60 contingents for the state level Vipra Vismayam 2010/11 – the Sports & Games Competitions – to be held on 5th and 6th of February 2011 at Kochi. The District has qualified to participate in almost all the disciplines of Vipra Vismayam in junior and senior category.

A meeting of the officials and District Team Manager was held on 2nd January 2011 at Ernakulam took stock of the preparation of the District teams in the various disciplines.

Later, briefing the details V. Krishnaswami said the winners and their respective Upasabhas will be informed with the details of the State level competitions in time. They also will be provided a schedule of events for convenience. R. Hariharaputhran, District Joint Secretary will be the chef-de-mission of the Ernakulam contingent for the Games. Two deputies to assist him will be named later.

The 2 day District level Vipra Vismayam was held at FACT Udyogamandal Campus on 11th and 12th of December 2010. The conduct of the events was smooth and transparent which drew much appreciation. As the winners are to represent Ernakulam District in State level, it became a selection trial for the participants. V. Krishnaswami appreciated M. Vanchiswaran, General Convener and his team for the structured organizing of Vipra Vismayam in district level.

The venue - FACT Udyogamandal Campus - was compact with all aminities in hand-strech distance. Shuttle Badminton was played simultaniously in three wooden courts and at the same time, Cricket matches were held in the Cricket ground. Transportation was arranged to pick-and-drop the players from the main venue. Schedule of events was prepared in such a way to avoid clash between same players participating in different events. Food and refreshments were provided in packets for all - players and escorting officials from Upasabhas - in time. Professional Umpires/Referees/Arbiters were appointed for accurate verdict and perfection.

As Ernakulam District is hosting the State level Vipra Vismayam, the participants from the district will be asked to report directly to the venue in which the competitions of their respective disciplines are held, Krishnaswami said.
